Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research
The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research is a semi-autonomous Institute of the University of Ghana established in 1979; and a constituent member of the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana. The Institute was built and donated to the people of Ghana by the Japanese Government. It?s history cannot be told without making mention of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, a Japanese scientist who died in Ghana in 1928 while researching into yellow fever. The Institute is a biomedical research facility and conducts research mainly into communicable diseases and nutrition. It is made up of nine Academic Departments and has several facilities. The facilities are also used for training both undergraduates and postgraduates from tertiary institutions in the country and abroad. It has strong links with the Ministry of Health and provides high end laboratory support to public health programmes of the Ministry. The Health Research Unit was established in 1990 by a Ministry of Health Policy, and later incorporated into the Ghana Health Service in 2002. It has the mandate of coordinating and conducting research into health-related issues to facilitate policy formulation and programme implementation. The areas of expertise of various members of staff include Epidemiology, Public Health, Social Sciences including Health Finance and Medical Anthropology, Data Management, Medical Statistics and Information Management. Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC)
Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) is one of three field research centres under the Health Research Unit (HRU) of the Ghana Health Service(GHS) - Ghana. The Centre was set up -in 1994 in collaboration with the Maternal and Child Epidemiology Unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
