In accordance with the functions delineated, there shall be seven directorates in the Ministry. These are:

  1. Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME)
  2. Research, Statistics and Information Management (RSIM)
  3. Human Resource Development and Management (HRDM)
  4. Administration (Admin)
  5. Procurement and Supplies (P&S)
  6. Traditional and Alternative Medicine (TAM)
  7. Finance (Fin)

1. Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate
The Directorate of PPME will be responsible for coordination of policy formulation, strategic planning, resource allocation and budgeting in the Ministry. It will also initiate review of health legislation for regulating the practice and delivery of health services in the country. It will also be responsible for the overall monitoring and evaluation of the performance of the health sector in the country.

It consists of the following units:

2. Human Resource Development and Management Directorate
The Directorate of Human Resource Development and Management will be responsible for providing a framework for the planning, development and management of human resources for the health sector. It will also coordinate the activities of the health training institutions. The Directorate will also co-ordinate sector-wide training including fellowships.

3. Administration Directorate
The Directorate of Administration will be responsible for providing general administrative support and protocol services to the Ministry.

4. Procurement and Supplies Directorate
The Directorate of Procurement and Supplies will be responsible for formulating policies on procurement and supply chain. It will coordinate central procurement and supervise the management of the Central Medical Stores. It will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation of utilization of supplies by GHS, Teaching Hospitals and Agencies contracted by the Ministry to ensure efficiency.

5. Research, Statistics and Information Management
The Directorate of Research Statistics and Information Management will be responsible for the initiation and co-ordination of health research for informing health policy and planning of health delivery. It will manage health information and carry out Public Relation/Marketing activities for the Ministry.

6. Traditional and Alternative Medicines Directorate
The Directorate of Traditional and Alternative Medicines is responsible for planning and development of Traditional and Alternative Medicines policy in the country. It monitors and evaluates the delivery of traditional and alternative health care in the country.

7. Finance Directorate
It is responsible for financial management policy, resource mobilization, disbursement, financial accounting and reporting. It is also responsible for managing the finances of the Ministry Headquarters.
